Golgotha’s Glory

This new hymn was inspired by a two-word phrase my father mentioned while contemplating tune names for another song. It was not applied as a tune name, but it did become the title of this hymn.

Lyrics

1. A far'way hill of greatest pain
Is a sight of glorious grace
To all who call upon His name
And look on His blessed face.

Refrain:
Golgotha's glory—our salvation.
The full price of sin is paid.
Tell the story to all nations—
Jesus Christ has come to save!

2. Between two thieves in guilt condemned
Hung the spotless, perfect Lamb.
He shed His blood to pay the price—
He defeated death and sin.
[Refrain]

3. There Mercy was for us displayed—
Justice now is satisfied.
No more a curse upon our head,
But God's righteousness applied.
[Refrain]

4. No condemnation now we dread—
Jesus Christ has paid the price.
And He has crushed the serpent's head.
O wondrous grace—what sacrifice!
[Refrain]

Doctrinal Notes

This song is a wonderful paradox. Many would wonder what glory could be in a place of death–gory and agonizing. But the glory of this far’way hill is that on that cross our salvation was paid for, and there on Calvary the victory was won.
